EU migrants are our neighbours, our friends, our doctors, nurses, and teachers. They have built lives here and made our communities stronger and better. The Labour Campaign for Human Rights believes they have the right to remain. And we’re not alone. In February 2017 we shared messages from leading Labour MPs and supporters in solidarity with our European friends and neighbours.

“There is a mounting sense of very real injustice about the uncertainty faced by EU nationals living here. Labour will continue to push the Government to act and to ensure EU nationals are not used as part of the negotiation process.”

“I want to send a particular message to the almost 1 million Europeans living in London, who make a huge contribution to our city – working hard, paying taxes, and contributing to our civic and cultural life. You are welcome here. We value the enormous contribution you make to our city and that will not change.”

“Our cultural life is richer thanks to the contribution of EU nationals who have made a home in Britain for themselves and their families. Guaranteeing their right to stay is an essential act of decency.”

“There are millions of EU nationals who have made their homes in the UK and are bringing up their children here as full British citizens.  It is unthinkable that these families could be uprooted or torn apart because of Brexit. Theresa May needs to give a cast iron commitment that they remain in Britain otherwise both their future, and the future of millions of British citizens living in EU countries, will be at risk.”

“The world is watching. Watching how one of the world’s leading advocates for challenging racism and xenophobia acts in the coming months. The new administration in the United States has failed in this respect. Our Government has to set a better example. EU nationals must have the right to remain. The world is watching.”

“Britain must challenge, not emulate, the emerging current of xenophobic extremism in the world today. Guaranteeing the residency rights of EU nationals living in the UK is a vital part of that.”

“I am proud of the 15% of my constituents who are EU nationals, as they work hard and contribute to our economy and our society. I have been approached by many of these individuals since the Referendum who are worried about their future in Britain. The Prime Minister must provide my constituents, and all EU nationals living in this country, with assurances that they will be given the right to stay.”

Andy Slaughter MP

“I’m proud that Britain welcomes people from all nationalities and grateful to all those who contribute their lives and talent to our country. At this time of uncertainty I particularly want to let people from other EU countries know I am on their side. I welcome them and will stand up for their right to be here.”

Thangam Debbonaire MP
